If you need some ideas for Valentine’s Day activities, crafts, or cards, you’ve come to the right place!

I get super excited to start crafts for any Holiday or Festival (especially during a pandemic). I started celebrating Valentine’s Day with my oldest in January! It keeps our spirits up and the house decorated differently!

The best part – seeing my almost 4 year old so proud of his work that he has to hang it up on our fridge.

Here’s a tip if you do a lot of crafts with your little ones/students! Keep a “Master” copy of all your crafts.

I have a folder of all of the crafts I’ve done with students and my own kids. I often make one myself first to not only prepare for the craft/activity (I will know if I’m missing any supplies too), but to also have a folder full of these crafts so we never run out of ideas! If you’re an educator, you know your students will take these crafts home at one point, so it’s great for you to have one on hand.

My 7 month old even joined in on the fun for his first Valentine’s Day!

I’ll give you a list of all the materials you will need for each activity.

Unicorn Craft

This was the highlight of our weekend! Because who doesn’t love unicorns? Joey was super excited that he could use glitter and help cut some of the materials (he’s been practicing with his safety scissors).

If your kids are preschool age, try to help them with hand over hand cutting.

What you’ll need

  • Scissors
  • Pen/Pencil
  • Glue Stick
  • Yarn (your choice of colours)
  • 5 Colours of Construction Paper (1 large for the head, 1 small-medium for the unicorn horn, 2 small pieces for the ears, 1 for the mouth piece)
  • Optional – Mod Podge & Glitter
  • Optional – 12 x 12 piece of cardstock/scrapbooking paper

Your kids can always colour or decorate the horn any way they choose – we really wanted to try using glitter!

Cut your shapes to make your unicorn head (below).

Apply a medium layer of Mod Podge to the horn and sprinkle your glitter on! Let it dry completely.

Cut out strips of yarn for your unicorn’s hair. We cut up a bunch of strips and then I tied them at one end to make it easier for Joey to glue to the construction paper (below).

All that’s left to do is to glue your pieces together!

Valentine’s Day Fish Bowl

This Valentine’s Day craft was a lot of fun, and you can create so many different kinds of fish!

Print off any free fish bowl clipart images from the web – there are hundreds! Have your kids colour in the fish bowl first if preferred!

Cut up different size heart shapes and place them in a tray for your children. They can use smaller hearts for lips, fins, and scales! It all depends on their creativity!

Once they’ve glued their fish together, simply glue them on to the fish bowl!

Joey asked if we could hang it on our window – it looks so cool when the sunlight hits the fish bowl!

Valentine’s Day Sensory Bin

One of my posts talks about the steps to making my vinegar free sensory rice, I’ll link it here.

Sensory bins are wonderful for kids to play with. They promote so many types of development and keep children interested and focused.

If you have younger children, this specific sensory bin is not age appropriate (loose pieces present a choking hazard). But if your children are old enough, you can find the loose parts (jewels, wooden pieces, scoops, etc) at the Dollar Store!

Valentine’s Day Bouquet

Theodore and I made this bouquet in secret while Joey was at daycare.

This is such a cute Valentine’s Day craft and is the perfect gift/card for anyone!

What you’ll need:

  • Red Paint
  • White Construction Paper
  • Pink Construction Paper
  • Red Construction Paper (for the hearts)
  • Paint Brush
  • Green Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Paint your child’s hand with red paint and press on to white construction paper. When dry, cut out their handprints. You can do this as many times as you wish (I did two flowers because doing this with a 7 month old was a little challenging).

Cut out some red heart shapes.

Glue down your green ribbon stems before you glue on the flowers (handprints & hearts).

And voila! A beautiful bouquet!

Valentine’s Day Caterpillar

I originally used to do this craft with heart shapes for the caterpillar’s body, but decided to switch it up a bit with fingerprints instead!

What you’ll need:

  • Red Paint
  • White, Pink/Red and Purple Construction Paper
  • Crayons/Markers/Pencil Crayons
  • Heart Stamps
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors

You will need 1 heart shape for the caterpillar’s head and two smaller ones for the antennae.

Once the head is glued in place, have your child dip their finger into red paint and make as many or as little body pieces as they wish.

When dry, your kids can always draw their names on each fingerprint too!

Add some feet and your done!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

TKM

xoxo
